我本人没有听说过私立学校有特需天才班，但是在美国各大公立学校有”天才与资优教育计划（Gifted and Talented Program）“。

正规的“天才教育”始于１９１８年，大规模的联邦“天才班”计划，则是上世纪６０年代之后才展开的。经过近百年的发展，美国天才教育体制日渐成熟，已经成为世界上“天才教育”最普及、研究和从教人员力量最大的国家，从幼儿园到中学，都设有“天才班”。

虽然都叫天才教育，但美国各个州的天才计划各不相同。但同样的是，天才计划针对的并不是凤毛麟角的“神童”，其实就是把一部分适于学习的孩子集中起来，因材施教，让他们接受一些超前教育。跟中文里的那种10岁上少年班的”神童“或是”天才“还是有本质区别的。

至于特需学校，一般在美国概念的理解是Special Education, 专门针对学习有障碍，例如Down syndrome，Dyslexia， Learning disability 等，在这些学校里，是没有天才班的。

您讲的是需要考试才能进的公立学校， 必须是美国公民或绿卡， 在当地公立学校读书， 学校推荐，学生考试，面试才能进的， 如果考上， 免费， 非常好，比如我们新泽西的Bergen academies, 爬藤高达30-40%， 不次于最好的私立学校。

不知你问的是公立的还是私立的？

美国类似天才班的学校多是公立的，有的州是政府专门设置的，甚至还有住校的，象GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL OF NORTH CAROLINA：https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governor%27s_School_of_North_Carolina（高中11〜12年级） 。但更多的是magnet学校，象我这边就有一所Academy of Science and Technology （高中9-12年级）。不管是哪所类型，都是要经过考试选拔才能进得去的。进这样的学校，因为免学费，往往比申请私校更难。
读公立的话，一定要有美国公民或绿卡身份。

magnet学校很多都是这样的，对于成绩要求很高，再一个就是因为公校，所以需要有美国公民或绿卡身份。
