  • For the Spring 2021 semester, will the teaching method be on-campus or online?

We are offering our Flexible Learning Plan. The primary mode of instruction is in person. However, we currently have about 25 students who cannot attend in person, including students from China, and we offer an online platform for them. You can read more about it in the link above, but some basic components are:
    • Real-time Zoom classes offered for those who can attend online in real-time
    • Courses are recorded and posted on our online portal called The Gap for those who cannot attend in real-time.
    • All assignments are posted in The Gap.
    • Tutorial and teacher support offered remotely with special time zone considerations
    • Teachers take into consideration that not all remote platforms are available to students in China, alternative sources are made available in this case.
    • Teachers are trained to help remote students utilize the resources in their home area to enhance learning with the understanding that some students are unable to leave their home environment or neighborhood.
  • For the Spring 2021 and Fall 2021 semester, is there any change in
admission requirements compared to previous years?

While there is no change in the admission requirements we are
flexible and take into consideration the following:
    • access to testing centers may be limited and we will consider
      alternative testing
    • students may have had delayed or interrupted schooling,
impacting academic performance, school records, etc
  • Any advice for students from China applying for the spring of 2021 or 2021-2022 school year?

    • The tendency may be for families to wait for borders to open or political relations to improve. We would encourage families to move forward with their plans and apply to schools with the hope that things will be clearer by April 10th. Rabun Gap is happy to offer a virtual Zoom tour of the campus so families can meet a Rabun Gap student and see the campus for themselves!
    • If safety is a concern, consider schools with a rural and remote location like Rabun Gap. Unlike many schools, we are still in person and offering a full complement of extracurricular activities with safety protocols in place. Please feel free to review our Safer Together plan which outlines our successful plan for the full opening of school in the fall as well as the ongoing enhanced safety protocols to protect our students, faculty, and staff.  We have not had an interruption to classes due to COVID -19 this fall. Our hybrid in-person/online offerings also offer flexibility for families who cannot or are not ready to travel.
    • Ask schools what their holiday and summer plan is for boarding students. Last spring when schools began to close down, Rabun Gap kept their dorms open for all boarding students who wished to stay. We had a large number of students, about 50, who chose to stay on campus. Some of these students stayed with us all of this past summer. For this 2020-2021 school year, our dorms will remain open for all holidays and breaks. We also are adding summer programming for the summer of 2021.
Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School is a private, coeducational day and boarding school for grades Pre-K through 12. Centrally located between Atlanta, GA, Greenville, SC, and Asheville, NC, we prepare young people for college, career, and a lifetime of leadership and service.
