Academics

The Savannah Country Day School seeks to prepare students of academic and personal promise to meet with confidence, imagination, and integrity the challenges of college and of life. In partnership with supportive families, we strive to cultivate in each student the desire and the discipline to grow in wisdom, to lead lives of personal honor, to appreciate beauty, to pursue physical well-being, and to serve others with a generous, compassionate spirit.

Arts

At Savannah Country Day, the Fine Arts program exposes students to visual art, general music, choral music, jazz band, theater, drama, photography, orchestra, and technology-based visual arts. Our talented Fine Arts instructors work to develop the student’s ability to access, interpret, and evaluate imagery, movement, and sound; develop visual/spatial/hearing intelligence; and to build a life-long appreciation and understanding of the arts.

Athletics

With over 50 teams in 15 sports, the athletic offerings for students at Country Day are endless. A supportive school community and decorated coaches help to provide an environment of excellence, both on and off the field.

Global Online Academy

Global Online Academy (GOA) offers SCDS students the opportunity to learn alongside peers from around the world. GOA courses further enrich the Country Day experience by allowing students explore their passions with classes that are outside of the traditional course catalogue.

Mini-mester 2024

Another successful Mini-mester is in the books! While some students had the opportunity to travel to places like Belize, Boston, and along the Silver Comet Trail (by bike!), other students immersed themselves in experiential learning in and around campus and Savannah! From sailing to fencing, culinary adventures, mahjong, bass fishing, and everything in between, Mini-mester is a unique opportunity for our Middle School students to explore something new and fun while interacting with students from other grade levels. Mini-mester encourages our students to be lifelong learners and believe that self-initiated learning can be powerfully persuasive and lasting.

Governor's Honors Program

Congratulations to junior Andrew Semones on his selection as a finalist for this year's Governor's Honors Program. In this highly selective summer program, over 4,200 students were nominated to the state-level competition, and nearly 1,500 participated in this year’s state interview/audition process. The program is held mid-summer as a residential educational experience on a college or university campus. Students attend classes in the mornings and afternoons in specific areas of study, and they participate in a wide variety of social and instructional opportunities every evening. Congratulations, Andrew!

Emiline Baxter STAR Student - Region 8

Congratulations to Emiline Baxter on winning the STAR Region 8 Student/Teacher competition and advancing to the State Competition in late April. In addition to SAT scores, the State Competition will consist of five judges reviewing comprehensive biographical information and considerations such as extracurricular activities, personal philosophy, and leadership. Each STAR student selects a teacher who has significantly influenced his/her success, and Emiline selected Upper School math teacher A.J. Goldman as her STAR Teacher.

When in Rome...!

From Stillwood Drive to Via dei Fori Imperiali, 15 Country Day students embarked on an incredible educational journey to Rome over Spring Break! Guided by Latin instructor Dr. Kevin Gavin and Courtney Aliotta, students explored the Eternal City and marveled at renowned landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Capitoline Museums, the Golden House, the Forum, the Borghese Gallery, the Trevi Fountain, and the recently renovated Domus Tiberiana, in addition to numerous churches, fountains, squares, galleries, and monuments.

The group ventured through the impressive ruins of the Baths of Caracalla, wandered beneath the arches of ancient churches, and toured opulent palaces adorned with masterpieces from ancient, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. Amidst these adventures, there was ample time for indulging in gelato, exploring local shops, and observing the vibrant life of the city. Undoubtedly, this was an unforgettable experience that will be treasured by the students for years to come.

My career has turned out to be so fulfilling, and I look forward to each day! Moreover, my children are happy, safe, and well-rounded thanks to SCDS."
Carrie Vetrovsky, SCDS Teacher & Parent

We have been thrilled with how our daughter is thriving since transferring to SCDS for middle school. We are so appreciative of the faculty, staff and fellow parents who have eagerly guided us through this academic year. The school has exceeded our expectations."

In my business (as a NASA engineer), we have to launch a rocket within an extremely tight window that's just minutes long because small deviations at that early, fiery moment have an enormous impact on the ultimate destination of the spacecraft. I believe that my time at SCDS, though brief and more than twenty years ago, continues to have a similar impact on my life."
