提前决定（Early Decision,ED）:学生只能申请一个提供这种录取形式的学校，并且如果被录取的话学生要签一个具有约束力的保证书承诺注册入读。申请一般提交的比较早，基本上都是11月1日，录取通知书也会在12月中旬出来。假设申请者被录取了的话，需要及时撤销提交给其他学校的申请-无论是常规录取RD,滚动录取RA，还是提供行动中的申请EA之类的。这里我们以哥伦比亚大学为例，详细讲解ED申请政策：http://undergrad.admissions.columbia.edu/apply/first-year/early-decisionWhetheror not to apply EarlyDecision is an important choice, one that should be made aftercareful consideration of many schools and hopefully a visit to our campus. Thechoice to apply Early Decision should be one driven by a true passion for Columbia and a certaintythat should you be admitted, you would attend. We hope you resist externalpressures to apply early, and instead make an educated and informed choice thatapplying early is right for you.If Columbia is your firstchoice - and you are willing to make a binding commitment to attendif admitted - please do consider applying Early Decision. All application materials must besubmitted by November 1. You must have all standardized testing completed by the November test date, and you must be very certain tohave your scores reported directly to Columbiaby the testing agency. Please review our RequiredStandardized Testing section.If applying for financial aid, students receive an estimated financial aid packageat time of admission. If admitted, you must withdraw all other applications andaccept our offer of admission. Only students who, after consultationwith the Office ofFinancial Aid, cite financial reasons for not attending will be releasedfrom the Early Decision agreement.如果被录取，要取消所有已经提交的其他学校的申请，只有一种情况就是因为财政方面的原因导致不能入读，才能免于ED协议的限制。 In mid-December you will be notified of the results ofyour Early Decision application:If you are admitted under the Early Decision program, you areobligated to accept Columbia’soffer of admission. Once you accept Columbia’soffer of admission, you may file no further college applications and mustwithdraw any other applications that have already been submitted. Only students who (afterconsultation with the Financial Aid Office) cite financial reasons for notattending will be released from the Early Decision agreement. 一旦录取就要撤销其他已提交的学校申请。According to the National Association for College Admission Counselingguidelines, “while pursuing admission under an Early Decision plan, studentsmay apply to other institutions, but may have only one Early Decisionapplication pending at any time.” While Columbia does notnecessarily encourage the filing of both Early Decision (binding) and EarlyAction (non-binding) applications, we do not prohibit candidates from doing so.However, candidates should be aware that Columbia’sEarly Decision program is a binding agreement and a candidate will be expectedto enroll, regardless of any pending applications (early or otherwise). 申请ED后的三个结果If you are offered admission under the Early Decision plan, we expect that youwill maintain a rigorous course load and a strong academic performance for theremainder of your senior year. Any non-elective course changes to take placeafter admission must be discussed and approved in advance by the Office ofUndergraduate Admissions. You must submit the Mid-Year School Report andeventually a final transcript. Your academic performance will be monitored andevaluated through the end of the senior year. 录取后别放松，还是需要有个良好的12年级成绩。 If you are deferred under the Early Decision plan, it means a final decision onyour candidacy will be made with the regular applicant pool, and you will benotified in late March/early April.如果被Deferred，别灰心，耐心等待常规录取。会在3月底4月初公布。 If you are denied under the Early Decision plan, you must consider carefully yourother college options.
